Brownhill students meet our Stephen Lawrence Committee
Mr Hough from our sister Academy, Brownhill Co-operative Academy brought eight students to meet our Stephen Lawrence Committee.
As most people will know the group are named after Stephen Lawrence, a teenager killed in 1993 because of the colour of his skin. The group meet every week to discuss how they can help make sure something like this does not happen again.
The Stephen Lawrence Committee hold regular fundraisers for local charities, and collect items for local foodbanks. The work with the WE Movement, who work tirelessly to make the world a better place. Through them the Stephen Lawrence Committee sponsor a village in Africa, raising money to help the people their get an education and access to clean water.
Mr Hough loves what the Stephen Lawrence Committee do, and really wants to start something similar at Brownhill. So he brought his best eight students to come and find out all they could.
The students got chance to listen to a presentation about the work that they do, and then ask questions. The students thought of some amazing questions like, "why did you join?", "what inspires you to be a better person?" and "how could we do the same thing at Brownhill?".
All of the Stephen Lawrence Committee were very impressed with how mature and interested the students from Brownhill were. We wish them the best of luck with their own group, and can't wait to see all the amazing ideas they come up with.
