Stephen Lawrence Committee shine at the Co-op AGM

Our sponsor, The Co-op, held their  Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday 20th May, where members were able to have a say about how the Co-op is run and take part in votes on key issues.

This year, Steve Murrell (CEO, Co-op Group) invited representatives from each of the academies to attend the AGM in Manchester as he was keen to show everyone the amazing work being done in our academies.

Our Stephen Lawrence Committee attended along with The Co-operative Academy of Stoke's Young Leaders, MCMA's Fairtrade Committee and Manchester's swing band.

The students had the opportunity to chat to the stallholders in the exhibition hall, meeting some of the charities that had received funding from the local community fund.

Our fearless Stephen Lawrence Committee also made sure to talk to as many Co-op executives as they could about the work they do in the school and local community. The students also met well known author and broadcaster, Lemn Sissay, who has just become the Co-op's first member pioneer ambassador, who gave words of encouragement to the committee.

Mike Gidney, CEO of the Fairtrade Foundation also spoke to the students about their community spirit and hard work. The students also got to take part in a SortedFood cooking workshop as part of the Co-op's work to teach the nation how to cook.

We are very proud of how maturely the students from all of the academies carried themselves, and you can see more photos from the AGM here
