The Co-operative Film Festival

Year 9 and 10 students from Miss Helliwell’s/Mr West’s Performing Arts group and Miss Stockwell’s/Miss Jussab’s ICT group went on a visit to the Co-operative Film Festival at the National Media Museum in Bradford. When the students arrived they got the chance to meet and get autographs from James and Oliver Phelps who played Fred and George Weasley in the Harry Potter films. Several students had their photographs taken with the famous twins. Oliver Phelps told Mr West that they had enjoyed meeting a lot of students from the Academy and they had been great. After meeting Fred and George, the students watched a question and answer session on James and Oliver. They answered several questions including two from Fatouma Sanyang in Year 11 who asked how they balanced their acting and filming commitments with their studies, and also asked what they would do if they were not actors.

The students then explored the museum and a lot of the students went to a special effects workshop and learned how to make authentic looking wounds using the special effects they use in the movies. The wounds looked very gruesome and some students even had authentic looking stitching over them too!

The students then attended a Film Festival screening, where students in local schools that had made some short films and animations had the chance to showcase their work. Perhaps next year there may be an entry from our own Academy…. watch this space!
